Give. Volunteer. Inspire.

Every year, the bank I work for has a company-wide United Way campaign.  I was put in charge this year, and have spent the better half of the three weeks planning and holding events for my office.  We are a small office – not more than 50 people – so it was somewhat challenging coming up with events that people would want to participate in.

The Root beer floats, pizza, M&M guessing game, Jeans week, and  bake sale raised $340 for the United Way.

Additionally, we were allowed, with permission from our supervisors, to take part in a volunteer project.  I haven’t participated in previous years, but this year I had the pleasure of volunteering at Feed My Starving Children.

Feed My Starving Children is a nonprofit organization that puts together food packages sent worldwide. The food packages consist of:
1. Rice, the most widely accepted grain around the world.
2. Extruded soy nuggets, providing maximum protein at lowest cost.
3. Vitamins, minerals and a vegetarian chicken flavoring to give growing children the critical nutritional elements they need.
4. Dehydrated vegetables for flavor and nutrition.

In the two short hours spent volunteering, our group of 33 people put together 77 boxes of food.  That equates to providing 16, 632 meals to hungry people.  Even more impressive is the fact that we provided enough food to feed 45 people for an entire YEAR.

This was a really awesome experience and I can’t wait to do it again.
